Hardwoods like oak and ash can easily soak up most types of stain. These woods have somewhat massive pores to absorb stain effectively, so there are many options out there when it comes to the colour, kind, and opacity of a stain.  We tested this stain inside of a semitransparent redwood tone and located it somewhat too crimson for our style.
